Exploring a Montessori Classroom

When you step into our Montessori classroom in Auckland, you’ll notice a unique environment that supports active learning and allows kids to take charge of their education. Students have the freedom to move around, whether they want to work at a table or on a floor mat. They’re busy with activities that let them explore their interests, helping them explore their interests and develop their skills at their own pace. Children are given the freedom to work on their own, or to team up in small groups, collaborating and learning from each other.

The teacher-child interactions are characterised by respect and understanding, creating a warm atmosphere where kids feel comfortable and supported. Positive interactions between the children are also evident, as they learn to communicate, share, and empathise with their peers. The students demonstrate focused attention and good concentration while engaging in hands-on activities, immersing themselves in the learning process. The classroom itself is well maintained and organised, with shelves displaying a wide array of multi-sensory learning materials covering various topics.

Fostering Independence and Purposeful Learning

In a Montessori classroom, you will find students freely moving around, engaged in purposeful play and creative work. They work independently and in small groups, with respectful teacher-child interactions. The environment is well-maintained, organised, and filled with multi-sensory learning materials. Montessori Education emphasises intrinsic motivation and encourages children to find deep satisfaction in their work. Ongoing research supports the effectiveness of Montessori principles in child development.

One notable aspect of Montessori Education is its emphasis on intrinsic motivation, as opposed to an extrinsic reward system. Children are encouraged to find deep satisfaction and take pride in their work, cultivating a sense of personal fulfillment. This approach has garnered significant attention due to the enduring success of Montessori Education. Current research on the brain and child development consistently aligns with Maria Montessori's profound observations, which she meticulously documented over a century ago. These ongoing studies affirm the vitality and relevance of Montessori principles in shaping an enriching learning experience for children today.

Montessori Testimonials

"The best and most authentic Montessori preschool in Auckland! Both my children went to this school for the full 3 years and they absolutely thrived. Although they are both at school now, they still talk about Titoki frequently and go visit. I can't imagine a better start to their educational journey. All the staff are extremely knowledgeable in Montessori philosophy and do a fantastic job delivering an authentic programme. As a Montessori teacher myself, I am truly grateful for the level of care, effort and education Titoki provides. Children acquire skills for life at this preschool! As my 6 year old said "Titoki is the best school ever!""

At Titoki they follow a very authentic Montessori approach which values the whole child. The environment is fully prepared to suit the children’s needs, making child-led learning a really enjoyable experience for these pre-schoolers. The staff are absolutely wonderful, very nurturing and supportive and there is a great community vibe to the school. Our son left very well prepared for starting Primary School. We are so lucky to have such a high quality, authentic Montessori option right here in Torbay."
